Where to Buy Wholesale Jewelry to Sell Retail
Having been in the wholesale jewelry business for well over 20 years, I can say that the best sources are usually from overseas. For example, Aliexpress is very well known, however, there are going to be some caveats.
First, when you purchase from Aliexpress, using their free shipping option, the wait time could be anywhere from 10-20 business days. In some cases, and it happens quite often, it could take up to 60 days! Secondly, the descriptions are often misleading, so when you receive the item it could be “something you weren’t expecting.” To return the items, you’re responsible for the return shipping. If you’re located in the US, this could cost you anywhere from $10 and up.
Now let’s look at some other options available on the internet:
Amazon
Yes there is Prime shipping, but the cost of the items are usually so high to the point that you’re unable to make any profit. Chinese suppliers are also using the platform to do their own drop shipping as well as price gauging to stay competitive.
eBay
I do not recommend using eBay, as many sellers on eBay have “shipping time guarantees” that they do not honor. It’s true that you’re able to file disputes, but when you’re spending all the time messaging suppliers, you’re losing money that you could be making.
So…should I just give up?
